TIPS ON PROTECTING YOUR FLOORS FROM THE HEAT
MINIMIZE SUNLIGHT EXPOSURE
Ultraviolet (UV) Radiation is responsible for roughly 40% of damage to floors and furniture. Wooden Floors can be protected with varnish, shellac, or lacquer. Purchasing UV light blockers for windows helps reduce fading and darkening of wood and carpet.
REDUCE HUMIDITY LEVELS
Humidity levels of 55% or higher can be dangerous to wooden and vinyl floors because it creates a chance for moisture to seep in. Moisture leads to the expansion of wooden floors and defective clicking systems as well as cupping in laminate and vinyl flooring.
HOW TO PREVENT BUCKLING
Buckling is the formation of grooves and peaks in which boards are either partially or completely detached from the floor underneath. Buckling is commonly seen with wood and laminate flooring and is the result of major water damage. The best way to the buckling of floors is to remove the damaged boards, locate the source of moisture and let it dry, then replace the damaged boards (making sure to leave room for expansion over time).
